The event was a success with over 700 registered guests from fashion industry and other fields, providing valuable context and feedback on the work of seven participating designers. Fier Vitrine takes place twice a year during Berlin Fashion week and provides select emerging designers with a window to be scouted and noticed, supported by Fier management's networking tools and contacts.
In addition, several other Latvian fashion designers were in Berlin during the fashion week, so we did some Berlin bars together and also managed to attend a catwalk to see Indra Salcevica's new collection during a showcase, the Baltic Fashion Catwalk. The collections of Balagans and David Andersen were also shown. I must say, covered in goosebumps, Berlin catwalk cannot be compared to the Riga Fashion Week one, there is just more of everything (there are like seven rows for catwalk viewers as compared to three in Riga) and the magnitude of organisation can be felt on every step. A special huge tent was built near das monumentale Brandenburger Tor, all sizzling with purple lights, fashionistas and black MB limos.
If you didn't know, remember this: Keta Gutmane is one of the brightest Latvian conceptual designers that uses fashion as form of expression. The designer is merging boundaries between fashion and art and has worked with professionals from other creative industries such as a fashion film, which in 2010 brought international recognition. The short film "Lust Lust" created together with director Martins Grauds won the grand prize at fashion short film competition "A Shaded View on Fashion Film",
organized in Paris by fashion critic and journalist Diane Pernet. Gutmane's installation-dress made of parquet floor boards, the "Room Story" is currently exhibited at the prestigious U.S. fashion
exhibition "A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes, Fashion and Chess" at World Chess Hall of Fame. Keta's artefact is displayed next to such fashion icons as Alexander McQueen, Henrik Vibskov,
Hussein Chalayan and Maison Martin Margiela. Before that, "Room Story" was shown at FashionClash fashion exhibition in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
